Identifying my cause

The problem my project seeks to address is the sense of unawareness about their future many students have as they go through school. Many students have expressed feelings that they “have no idea what they are going to do after they graduate high school.” I fear that many students will just pursue the career most easily available to them and then grow discontent with their lifestyle after being there for a long period of time. This club will be an extracurricular opportunity that introduces impressionable students to the career path of becoming a lawyer. Members will learn what it takes to become a lawyer as well as how they can set themselves on a path to achieve getting a law degree and a professional internship. It will connect students with local lawyers who can describe how they achieved the occupational success they have and want to give back to future generations of lawyers.

Of course, the club will not legally obligate its members to become a lawyer as soon as they graduate. The name “Future Lawyers of America” only implies that the club’s members have a general interest in pursuing a career in law one day, the same way that a club of “Future Engineers” or “Future Teachers” would not expect that every participant will one day become an engineer or a teacher, respectively. One challenge that my project will need to overcome is this misconception that potential patrons will bring to the table, because many will think that membership in the club is a binding agreement. However, I think that the best compromise is to keep the name “Future Lawyers” because it is the most self-explanatory name because the term “Lawyer” is recognizable to the largest population of people.
